Ashby Youth for Christ

After the success of previous years we are collecting shoeboxes once again for needy families in Romania. If you would be interested in helping Link Romania make a difference this Christmas please get in touch with us. The shoeboxes need to be full of items that the whole family can benefit from. They need to be ready and delievered to Susy by the 6th of November. We have leaflets with further information in the office or you could look at Link Romania's website at:

Friday Night Thing is no more!! Instead it is Raft, a club for 14’s-18’s. Raft is held on a Friday night in the downstairs hall at Ashby Methodist Church from 7.30pm-9.30pm. The club is headed up by Mark and Denise, who are like the rest of the team excited about Raft and the development and future of it.

AYFC would like to welcome our new director! Let her introduce herself.

“But I’m not a youth worker……”
That was my initial response when it was suggested to me that I apply for the role of Director with Ashby Youth for Christ. That was 4 months ago and the journey from there to here has been …….. well, maybe I will share that with you another time!

For now, my name is Denise Owen and I live in Ashby with my 17 year old daughter and her pet mouse, Meow. We have lived in Ashby for almost three years now and worship at Ashby Baptist Church. When not at work, I love to garden and share an allotment with a friend where we attempt “The Good Life”.

My background is in Management Consultancy and Leadership Development. So no, I am not a youth worker but God has given me a passion for the young people of Ashby de la Zouch and a vision for how my skills and experience can be put to use. So, it is with excitement (and a little trepidation) that I look forward to working with you all to further the work of YFC in Ashby.

For the last couple of years, Ashby Youth for Christ has collected Christmas shoeboxes to be sent out to Moldova with Link Romania. It is something that we like to do because of our links with Moldova YFC. I act as an area collector and with the help of many wonderful people from local churches and schools we collected about 150 boxes. I would like to thank everyone who filled a box, they were picked up by Link Romania in November and by now will putting a smile on the faces of all who receive them.
